To have manuscripts considered for publication in the JAAD as certified CME activities, authors must first complete and submit proposal forms and manuscript outlines for approval by the CME Planning Workgroup and Deputy Editor. The CME must have a Part I and a Part II, each with its own proposal form and outline. Each part must also have separate and distinct learning objectives. To obtain approval from the CME Planning Workgroup, email all four files (Proposal Part I, Outline Part I, Proposal Part II, and Outline Part II) to jaad@aad.org for review.
Decisions for CME Proposals
Authors will receive emailed notification that their CME proposal was accepted or declined. If the proposal is accepted, authors will be invited to upload their CME submissions into the JAAD Editorial Manager system for peer review and potential publication.
Required CME files in the JAAD Editorial Manager System
1. Quiz material. To qualify for CME credit, authors must provide quiz material for each CME article that includes 2 clinical vignettes, each followed by 2 or 3 questions that evaluate clinical competence acquired as a result of the CME activity. The questions should reflect appropriate clinical practice rather than simply testing factual knowledge. Suitable questions assess the learner's ability to diagnose or treat a condition appropriately after reading the CME article. Guidelines for question writing can be found at here. Each question requires a brief discussion of why the correct answer is correct and why each incorrect answer is incorrect.
The quiz material should be provided as a separate file from the manuscript text file and should have learning objectives, stem/vignette, questions, answer options (A-E), correct answer reasoning, incorrect answer reasoning (broken out A-E, separately), and references.
2. Disclosure forms. CME requires a separate disclosure form, to be collected upon acceptance. If you are an AAD Fellow or International Fellow, please fill out or update your AAD Disclosure Form here and save a copy of the PDF. If you are not a member of the AAD, please fill in and return by email the conflict of interest form available here.
3. An authorship declaration form, available here.
4. A copyright transfer form - TBD
In addition to these forms, authorship confirmation (different from declaration form) is required within the Editorial Manager submission system. Co-authors will be emailed a request to confirm their authorship after the paper is submitted; therefore, it is critical that the email addresses provided for all authors within the Editorial Manager system are accurate.
